The Dordogne, a river in the heart of the region

Classified biosphere reserve by UNESCO, Dordogne crosses the Pays Foyen and has shaped its landscapes for centuries. A true common thread of the territory, it offers numerous activities:

Bastides and villages of character

The territory has a rich built heritage inherited from the Middle Ages. In the center of the territory, the bastide of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (founded in 1255) reveals its typical checkerboard plan, its arcaded square and half-timbered facades.

Strolling through its narrow streets is like stepping back in time: colorful markets, old houses, artisans, and a warm atmosphere make it an unmissable stop.
The surrounding area is also full of picturesque villages and small rural monuments – mills, wash houses, wayside crosses, dovecotes – which bear witness to life in the past.

A paradise for hikers

Crossed by several hiking trails, the Pays Foyen is an ideal destination for nature and outdoor enthusiasts.

GR 6 et GR 654 (Way of Saint James of Compostela) pass through the territory and offer superb views of the hillsides, the vineyards and the Dordogne valley, crossing the territory from east to west and from north to south.

De numerous marked trails also allow you to discover the small rural heritage and varied landscapes which make the charm of the region: sunken paths, forests, vineyards, meadows and villages.
