The Marguerite Duras association was born in 1997, because of the links with the Pays de Duras.
Marguerite Duras' father, originally from Lot-et-Garonne, left to teach in Indochina where Marguerite was born in 1914. In 1921, ill, he returned to France and bought a house near Duras, Platier, in which he died prematurely, far of his family who remained in Indochina. Marguerite his mother and his two brothers, will come to live in this house from 1922 to 1924 then in 1931 for the sale of the domain.
In 1943 Marguerite Duras published her first novel: Les Impudents. At the publication of this one - whose action takes place in the house of Platier, on the banks of the Dropt, she leaves Donnadieu, the name of her father and adopts Duras definitively as the name of writer.
In September, it organizes the even years of the BIENNALES MARGUERITE DURAS and the odd years of the RENCONTRES DE DURAS.
